A 7-megawatts (MW) hydro power facility will be built by Langogan Power Corporation (LPC) on the BatangBatang River, Narra town in the province of Palawan.

The company said in a statement that they've signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with local government unit (LGU) represented by Mayor and Palawan League of Municipalities head Lucy Demaala. The company was represented by executive Mike Wootton.

LPC, with its Norwegian partners, are investing more than P2 billion on all of its projects in the province. The power company will benefit from the full support of all Palawan municipalities, according to Demaala.

Starting 2016, the Narra hydropower is expected to provide a yearly clean energy output of about 32 gigawatt-hours (GWh), which in effect, could reduce 25,693 tons of annual fossil fuel emissions.

Palawan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the Palawan Alliance for Clean Energy are both endorsing the Narra power project.

Once completed, the renewable plant is expected to provide 150 megawatts of combine solar and wind power.

On December 12, Aeta tribal chieftain Conrado Frenilla, and community elder Bonifacio Florentino lead the Aeta community in signing the memorandum of agreement with local firm Jobin SQM Inc. and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

The project, which will prove that nature and technology can co-exist, will be put up inside the Pastolan Aeta's ancestral domain.

The project will "accelerate the exploration and development of renewable energy sources, increase utilization of such and promote their efficient and cost-effective commercial application," according to SBMA chairman Roberto Garcia.
